Equity investment in scaling businesses doubled to £8.27 billion in 2017, with much of this at the seed and venture stage. With growing competition in the VC industry for relatively few scaling businesses, business owners should be looking for the support that comes with capital to choose the right investor. From board level guidance and talent networks to industry connections and longer term investment, there are a range of new differentiators.
Designed for those considering VC investment to scale, this dinner will bring together some of the members who contributed to The Supper Club’s latest guide to raising finance to share insights on how to choose the right investor and what to expect from them. We will also be joined by Edward Keelan, a growth investor who has worked with Octopus Investments for nearly ten years who contributed to the guide. Edward invests in UK SMEs across a range of sectors, with a focus on technology companies in the B2B sector. He currently represents Octopus on three boards including City Pantry where he recently led a £4m investment round.
This dinner will look to explore, but will not be limited to:
- The current landscape for VC investment
- What VC looks for in a high growth business
- How investors can add value beyond capital
- The checklist for choosing the right investor
